One of the biggest mistakes that people make with writing is using too many words.
There are two parts to this mistake:
- Using 20 words where only 10 are needed
- Including information that seems important to you but isn’t relevant to your reader
Why is writing too much a problem? Because information is easier to digest and arguments are more persuasive when delivered in a smaller package than a larger package.
The way you solve the over-writing problem is to recognise that once you’ve written something, only half your work is done.
Next, you need to go to your blog or your email or your proposal, reread it several times and work hard to remove words and even entire sentences.
The more concise you make your writing, the more effective it will be.
