Did you know that small businesses have a legal obligation to tell the truth in their marketing?

You’re not allowed to make false or misleading statements. If you do, you might be in violation of the Australian Consumer Law, and serious penalties could apply.

For example, you can’t say you’ve reduced a product’s price if the price was never higher.

That said, you are allowed to do is make obvious exaggerations.

So your business can be the best ‘in the entire world’, but it can’t be ‘the best in the suburb’ unless you’ve got evidence to back it up.

If you want to stay on the right side of the law, always tell the truth in your marketing.
